Over 81.1 Mt of palm oils were produced globally in 2019?20, of which 72.3 Mt was mesocarp oil (hereafter referred to as ‘palm oil’) while 8.8 Mt was palm kernel oil (Statisa 2020). Figure 10a?c show the typical practice of biomass power generation in palm oil mills. Some larger palm oil mills sell palm kernel shells (PKS) and palm kernel cake (PKC) as additional revenue sources. Practically, the power and steam required for CPO production are met mainly by consuming palm MF as fuel in an on-site boiler.
There are several products and co-products produced in the milling stage. Hence, weight allocation has been conducted to allocate part of the inputs and outputs. The main products are crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel oil (PKO) at 0.205 ton per ton FFB and 0.054 ton per ton FFB, respectively.

A palm oil mill produces crude palm oil and kernels as primary products and biomass as secondary product. The capacity of mills varies between 60-100 tons FFB/h.
