Aside from solid biomass, the palm oil industry produces 178.68?268.01 million tons of raw palm oil mill effluent (POME) per year during the milling process (Ratnasari et al. 2022). Raw POME is acidic (pH < 5.5), with high levels of suspended solids (SS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), color, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and oil and grease (Ng et al. 2019 ).
